The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF), based at RAF Coningsby in England, is a custodian of some of the most iconic and historically significant aircraft ever to take to the skies. This world-famous unit will bring the past to life.
The agility and grace of the Supermarine Spitfire are legendary! With its sleek design and exceptional maneuverability, the Spitfire was a formidable opponent against German bombers and fighters throughout the war. During Operation Market Garden, the Spitfire was as a close air support aircraft, providing protection for Allied ground forces and striking at German positions. Its nimbleness and firepower made it a valuable asset in the airborne operation.
Joining the Spitfire is a Hawker Hurricane, a sturdy and dependable fighter aircraft that played a vital role in the Battle of Britain. With its impressive firepower and rugged construction, the Hurricane was a formidable defender of the skies. During the Battle of Britain, it actually managed to down more German aircraft than the Spitfire.
These two fighters will help honour the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice during liberation operations.
