The Belgian air force will participate with an A109 helicopter, well-known after 25 years of active service with the Belgian armed forces. These helicopters of 17 squadron at Beauvechain are used for light transport, medevac and observation missions.
13 of these machines are still in service and they have taken part in operation over the former Yugoslavia, Benin and Mali. In Belgium, they are not only used for medical transport but also for intercepting slow-flying aircraft and counterterrorism operations. During the demonstration, the crew will deploy flares which are used in real operations to misguide heat-seeking missiles.
The A109 entered service with the Belgian armed forces in 1992 to replace the famous Alouette II, which were used by the Belgian helicopter display team Blue Bees at Sanicole in the past.
