In the late 1940s and early 1950s, the US military was transitioning to the jet age. This meant pilots needed more powerful training aircraft which could mimic the increased performance of the fighters they would be operating.

North-American developed the T-28 to meet this requirement to replace the T-6. The early version, the T-28A which was used by the United States Air Force, was a little sluggish upon take-off as the engine was not powerful enough for the heavy weight of the aircraft, which imitated the early jets very well. Later versions for the US Navy and US Marines had a more powerful engine installed. The aircraft also developed into a potent counter-insurgency aircraft, for instance with the French armed forces.
The aircraft at the International Sanicole Airshow is a T-28B originally built for the US Navy, but it now repainted to represent a USAF training aircraft. It is parked at Zwartberg in Belgium and will be presented by Luc Hellings. An impressive aircraft to help celebrate the 70th anniversary of the United States Air Force.
