The Hungarian airforce sends the JAS-39 Gripen to display this versatile aircraft. The Gripen is the most modern fighter from Sweden, following in a proud pedigree of legendary multi-role combat aircraft. The Gripen is able to operate from short runways and is equipped with state-of-the-art avionics.
The Hungarian Gripens have been used in operations to protect the airspace of the Baltic States. Kecskemet is the homebase of the 12 leased Gripens of the Hungarian air force where they serve with Puma squadron, a member of the NATO Tiger Association. In Hungary, the Gripen succeeded the Mig-29, in Belgium it is a candidate to replace the F-16.
