Experience the thrill of aviation history brought to life during the International Sanicole Airshow during the weekend of 13 & 14 September at Hechtel-Eksel when a classic aircraft dating back to the Vietnam war and currently based at Kortrijk-Wevelgem takes to the sky over Hechtel-Eksel: the Bronco Demo Team.
Since 2010, this dedicated group of enthusiasts has captivated audiences across Europe with dynamic displays featuring the iconic North American OV-10 Bronco. Their mission is to preserve and showcase this remarkable aircraft, offering spectators a glimpse into its storied past and exceptional capabilities.
The OV-10 Bronco emerged in the 1960s as a versatile, twin-turboprop light attack and observation aircraft, developed under a program by the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps. Designed for counter-insurgency operations, it excelled in missions such as observation, forward air control, armed reconnaissance and limited ground attack. Its unique twin-boom design and exceptional maneuverability made it a valuable asset in various combat scenarios. Nowadays, it is also in use as an aircraft to assist firefighters in their struggle against wildfires.
The Bronco you’ll see in action over Sanicole was in service with the German military where it mainly served as a target tug for anti-aircraft artillery training.
At the helm of the Bronco Demo Team is Tony De Bruyn, a seasoned pilot with a profound passion for the OV-10 Bronco. Under his leadership, the team has performed countless displays, each showcasing the Bronco's agility and the distinctive roar of its twin engines.
